The unofficial, incomplete vote totals for Connecticut’s special election for State Senate, 23rd district, are: Edwin Gomes, Working Families 1,485; Richard DeJesus, Democrat, 791; Rev. Kenneth Moales, independent, 509; Quentin Dreher, Republican, 152; Charles Hane, independent, 105.
Because the Working Families Party got over 20% of the vote in this election, it gets additional public funding for this election retroactively, as well as in 2016 for this particular district. Gomes assumed he was going to get over 20% and that he would get more public funding, so he will use the post-election money to pay campaign expenses.

Surprised that the Working Families Party won this race outright, but more power to them. I don’t know exactly what it is that draws voters to this party with its non-generic name. I guess I’m too traditional with generic names for political parties.
But regardless of name, there has to be something the party and/or the candidates have which make the voters over look the major party candidates and vote for them.
Apparently in this particular race, Gomes had a following, and the voters looked for his name not his party label.
Don’t think a Working Parties Party would fly in Alabama. Yes, there are alot of working families that are hurting, but it is some other issues the party stands for which makes ‘would be voters” back off. They don’t want to do anything that might give the Democrats a plurality.
