On February 24 the Virginia House Appropriations Committee killed SB 742. That bill would have provided for general election runoffs, for statewide office other than President, when no one got as much as 50% in November. The committee didn’t vote it down; it merely failed to act on the bill by the deadline. It had passed the Senate on February 9.

Professional politicians don’t care if the candidates reflect the majority of the voters. if they did, they would have run-elections [or at least install the instant-off option] To them, all that is important is that a partisan body be installed, as they expect him/her to obey the leadership of the Assembly.
It is time the readers of Ballot Action News realize that we are already under the control of Big Brother. They have control of most legislatures, and if any legislation is introduced – no matter how good it is or how it might help the common people – it is KILLED before it ever gets out of committee.
It is time to realize that we are almost back as bad as it was in 1776. Will we have the courage to stand up? I seriously doubt it. We all have too much to lose – our careers, our licenses, our homes, our savings, everything we own. It may be decades away, but eventually Richard Winger will be told what stories he can post and there will be internet police [censors] who will monitor all posts, and any thing that is posed as a threat to TOP TWO or a Two Party System with such hard provisions for 3rd parties and Independents to obtain ballot position. I can see 3rd parties being required 500,000 signatures for a full slate of candidates, and a Independent candidate will need no less than 10,000 signatures or 10% of the total voters of the district office being sought.
Think this is science fiction? Just live long enough and see what happens to people who take control of Ballot Access News, if – God Forbid – that Richard be taken away from us.
By this time, most of us will be gone to our spiritual rewards Those left will live in a world dictatorship and it will be only a dream to bring about electoral reform as we know and think of.
